From One Plant Manager Expert to Another: Meet Scott Anthony

Beyond the hustle and bustle of a manufacturing plant is a sophisticated operating system made up of intricate moving parts and people. Overseeing this process is the Plant Manager, who’s responsible for coordinating production efforts safely, efficiently and according to budget. Scott Anthony, Senior Account Manager with ORR Safety, sheds light on his career helping Plant Managers achieve their goals and what it takes to be successful.
Tell me about your background. How did you get started in the safety field?
Scott: “My first job out of college was with Benjamin Moore Paints, where I was an Architect and Engineer Representative. This was my introduction to many aspects of the safety industry. In addition, my career as an Account Manager is rather diverse allowing me to be exposed to many different environments, all requiring a unique approach to safety.”
What do you find the most rewarding about your job with ORR Safety?
Scott: “What I find the most rewarding about my job is the challenge of solving safety concerns for customers that aren’t everyday occurrences. There is no better feeling than demonstrating your value by providing a solution to a complex problem.”
What would you say are the biggest pain points or challenges for a Plant Manager?
Scott: “In my experience, the main challenges Plant Managers face throughout their career include ensuring their facility is running safely and efficiently, having the correct managers in place for each department, adjusting to new technology and achieving continued growth and profitability.”
In your career, how have you worked with Plant Managers to solve these challenges?
Scott: “I’ve helped solve these challenges by taking ownership of my customers and creating trust. I make it a point for my Plant Managers to understand that I’m looking at their business from a 30,000-foot view and it’s in their best interest for me to be a part of their success.”
How would you say the role of a Plant Manager has changed over the years? How will it continue to change?
Scott: “Change has occurred as a result of new regulations and advancements in technology. I believe this role will continue to change at a rapid pace, which means that a successful person will be someone who is flexible and has the ability to adapt and apply forward thinking in order to achieve positive outcomes.”
Out of other safety companies you’ve worked for in the past, how does ORR set itself apart from other safety companies?
Scott: “ORR Safety is a company that prides itself on 100% safety. No matter what our role is within the organization, we’re all focused on providing the best solutions. We want to be a partner and trusted advisor for our customers, not just another vendor.”
