ORR Safety Unveils Innovative XP Max Line for the Pulp and Paper Industry

For the pulp and paper industry, ORR Safety's XP Max line of PPE is the gold standard in comfort and protection. It's cutting edge stuff, but it has its roots way back in our company's history.
ORR Safety got its start back in 1948 when Clark Orr Sr. began selling personal protective equipment out of the trunk of his Packard. It’s not cute marketing mythmaking, it really is the company origin story and it’s why we are who we are.
Selling anything out of the trunk of your car requires you to be on-site with your customers, feeling the same radiating heat they feel from the boilers and furnaces, inhaling the same tingling, chemical-laden air they breathe, stepping over the same splintered wood they step over in their lumberyards and workshops. Being that intimate with an industry elevates the relationship from simple salesperson to trusted advisor. ORR’s growth over the years has everything to do with the way we work alongside our customers to cultivate shared success.
We Know the Pulp and Paper Industry Firsthand
This is exactly what happened with ORR and the pulp and paper industry. The longer ORR safety experts spent at pulp and paper mills around the country, the more they heard the same complaints: the PPE was bulky, restrictive, too warm, and too narrow in application. A worker had to change their PPE several times a shift as they worked with a variety of hazards and applications, slowing everything down and creating dangerous shifts in attention from the job at hand.
This front-row seat to the hardships of the pulp and paper industry got ORR’s experts thinking: why did it have to be this way? Why not change the game? Once ORR was asked to partner with the pulp and paper industry to design a new product that would meet the needs of workers inside a mill, we collaborated with management and employees to invent a line of protective clothing that was lighter, cooler, and applicable to a variety of applications.
The Birth of a New Line
ORR’s XP Max line of PPE was created specifically for the unique challenges of the pulp and paper industry: scorching hot job sites, sulfuric acid splashes, and exposure to white, green, and black liquors, hot ash, sodium hydroxide, and other noxious chemicals. The experts designing XP Max made sure they built in best-of-breed protection while still crafting something lightweight, durable, and comfortable to wear. XP Max proves you can have it all (at least when it comes to pulp and paper mill safety).
