ORR Safety has a long history of building genuine relationship with our customers. Since its origins in 1948, ORR Safety Associates have spent time in pulp and paper mills, with customers, getting to know the ins and outs of their industry and understanding the safety needs of the people who work there.
The longer ORR safety experts spent in pulp and paper mills, the more they heard the same complaints: the PPE was bulky, restrictive, too warm, and too narrow in application. Plus, a worker had to change their PPE several times during a shift because they needed different safety items for different hazards and applications.
This slowed everything down and created dangerous shifts in attention from the job at-hand and reduced process efficiency.
This front-row seat to the hardships of the pulp and paper industry made ORR’s experts think: How can we help? How can we enhance safety in the pulp and paper industry?
The answer to those questions came by doing what we do best – building relationship and partnering with our customers.
Pulp and Paper Safety Products Made For You, With You
ORR joined forces with the pulp and paper industry to design a new product that would meet the needs of workers inside a mill. We collaborated with management and employees to invent a line of protective clothing that was lighter, cooler and applicable to a variety of applications:
One of the main concerns for safety managers is protecting workers from chemical splash, so when designing this new chemical suit we made sure it complied with ASTM F739-12, the Standard Test Method for Permeating of Liquids and Gases Through Protective Clothing Materials Under Conditions of Continuous Contact.
The result of this partnership was ORR’s XP MAX line of protective clothing.
How Does the XP Max Protective Clothing Work?
XP MAX was created specifically for the unique challenges of the pulp and paper industry – intense heat exposure near the recovery boiler, sulfuric acid splashes and exposure to white, green and black liquors, hot ash, sodium hydroxide, other noxious chemicals and molten smelt.
The experts designing XP Max built in state-of-the-art protection while still crafting something lightweight, durable and comfortable to wear. XP MAX proves you can have it all, at least when it comes to pulp and paper mill safety.
Does the XP Max Protective Clothing Solve My Team's Concerns?
The XP MAX line of protective clothing was designed by ORR Safety hand-in-hand with pulp and paper safety coordinators and workers in the powerhouse, maintenance planners, maintenance engineers, safety engineers and safety managers for employees who perform pipe maintenance, rodding out and other responsibilities around the mill.
For pipe maintenance workers, the chemical splash suit protects from splashes occurring when lines are not properly drained or blinded.
For smelt deck workers, the suits help to protect from the high heat exposure and molten smelt splashes.
Protect Your Pulp and Paper Team with the XP MAX line
XP MAX is successfully being used at a majority of the pulp and paper companies in the United States. ORR Safety would love to protect your team, too. To learn more about the XP MAX line, click here to talk to one of our safety experts.
